Yes, that’s right! The Tata Nexon EV is currently the most affordable and reliable electric vehicle compared to its rivals. And since its launch, it has been among the bestselling Tata cars in India. As per verified sources, the Tata Nexon EV alone holds a 66% market share in the bandwagon of electric SUVs. It’s been two years since the electric iteration of the Nexon entered the market. And, if you ask about its direct rivals, there are none. However, the upcoming electric vehicle by Mahindra, the XUV400, may rival the Nexon EV. Moreover, Mahindra and Mahindra recently unveiled the XUV400, and the test drive of this upcoming SUV and its bookings will commence in December and January 2023, respectively.
But only a few alternatives demand a premium over the Nexon EV: the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona.
So, if you are also planning to join the club of Nexon EV, below are a few things you should know before you step into the showroom. That said, you can also check out the latest Tata Nexon EV price in your region on the autoX website.
Now, let’s read on!
Specifications
For your reference, the Nexon EV consists of two trims: EV Prime and EV Max. The former trim carries a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack tuned to churn out 127bhp of peak power and 245Nm of torque. It sends power to the front wheels via a one-speed automatic gearbox. Moreover, it has a claimed range of 312 km. Furthermore, the Nexon EV can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds.
Then comes the Nexon EV Max. The suffix “Max” suggests that it has a bigger battery pack than the Prime trim. Underneath the EV Max, you will find a 40.5-kWh battery unit that produces 141bhp and 250Nm of torque. As claimed by the indigenous carmaker, the Tata Nexon EV Max’s range is 437 km.
Please note that the ranges mentioned above are ARAI-claimed. It is also worth mentioning that the actual range of this sub-four-metre EV SUV can vary depending on local traffic conditions and an individual’s driving style.
Moreover, as for charging options, the Nexon EV Prime has a standard 3.3-kW charging option, which takes approximately 8.5 hours to replenish the battery. And the 50-kW DC fast charger takes an hour to recharge the battery from 0 to 80 percent. The same charging options are available on the top-of-the-line EV Max. However, the EV Max also gets a third charging option that differentiates it from the Prime variant. It is a 7.2-kW charger that takes six hours to replenish the battery.

Features
As for features, both the EV Prime and Max have a long list. Their offerings include a seven-inch Harman-sourced infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also boasts a semi-digital instrument cluster that shows relevant readings. However, the carmaker has offered a simple rotary dial as a gear selector in the EV Prime. On the contrary, the EV Max has a digital rotary dial that makes the car’s cabin look even plusher.
The standard features include front and rear power windows, anti-glare IRVM, auto HVAC, rain-sensing wipers with washers (front and rear), Car Connect technology, etc. Unlike the EV Prime, the Nexon EV Max gets front-ventilated seats, adjustable regenerative braking, and all four-disc brakes, to name a few. If you want the “top-ranger” model, head to the autoX website to check the location-based Tata Nexon EV Max on-road price.
Furthermore, the Nexon EV also features glove box cooling, a single-pane sunroof, seat lumbar support, projector headlamps with halogen lights, etc. Last but not least, the Nexon EV also gets a centre armrest with storage beneath, adding more comfort and convenience.
On the safety front, the Tata Nexon EV gets a standard ABS plus EBD, ESC, CSC (corner stability control), auto-headlights, and panic notification, to name a few. God forbid, if the Nexon gets stolen, you, as an owner, can immobilise the electric motors just by sitting at home. This subcompact SUV also gets ISOFIX child-seat anchorages and pretensioners with force limiter seatbelts for improved safety.
It also has hill-descent control and hill assist, making it convenient while driving on the hills. For reference, hill-descent control applies suitable brake pressure to prevent a car from slippage by maintaining speed while driving downhill.
The infotainment screen also displays the reverse parking camera view with guidelines accompanied by ultrasonic parking sensors for better parking. All in all, the Nexon EV Prime and Max are more or less the same. If the former also attracts you, check out the Nexon EV price on autoX.
Moreover, the Nexon EV gets standard dual airbags across the variants. Despite that, the Nexon EV secured a five-star safety rating, as awarded by the Global NCAP. That indicates that the build quality of a vehicle matters more than safety features.
Variants and Prices
As previously mentioned, the indigenous carmaker has divided the Nexon EV into two categories: Prime and Max. The former has three trims: XM, XZ+, and XZ+ Lux. Furthermore, the Jet Edition is exclusive to the top-of-the-line XZ+ Lux. And those trims total up to six variants.
So, as for the price range, the Tata Nexon EV’s price starts at Rs 15 lakh for the base model, the Prime XM, and goes up to Rs 17.50 lakh for the top-most model, the Prime XZ Plus Lux Jet Edition.
