Snapchat more popular than Facebook
As a fluent reader of my blog, you may have noticed that I give a great deal to the Snapchat network.
This is also why I have already described in detail what Snapchat is , how Snapchat works in detail or gave you Snapchat marketing tips .
Now the latest BRAVO youth media study with data on mobile media use by young people proves : Snapchat is more popular than Facebook.
Snapchat before Facebook but behind Instagram
35 percent of the young people surveyed between the ages of ten and 19 named Snapchat as the most used app on their smartphone. This puts the “yellow ghost” Facebook in fifth place (32 percent).
Last year, Snapchat was 17 percent and Facebook 40 percent.
A drop of bitterness for Facebook: WhatsApp (91 percent) and Instagram (52 percent) are two in-house social networks that achieve a better ranking than Snapchat.
Only the Google subsidiary YouTube (56 percent) currently manages to keep up with these two.
Instagram remains the #1 influencer medium
To keep up to date with their stars at all times, two-thirds follow them on Instagram.
It is remarkable that a large number of 42 percent mention Snapchat here:
Unlike Facebook (a medium for “only” 37 percent to follow stars) or Instagram, Snapchat has neither “user recommendations”, nor is the user search designed for “discovery”.
96 percent of young people have their own smartphone
Other exciting results of the study:
- 78 percent of girls have at least two social networking apps installed on their phones (66 percent of boys)
- 25 percent of girls even have more than four social networks on their smartphones
- 67 percent of young people spend time on YouTube every day
- 75 percent of young people watch more than 20 minutes per YouTube session
- Approx. 66 percent of young people are not bothered by product placement in social media content (2015: 55 percent)
Anyone who still thinks Snapchat is just “the one with the nudes” and will soon disappear from the social media world (or will be bought by Facebook) should get to grips with the major Snapchat Update

From now on, the emphasis in Snapchat is on CHAT. With the latest app update there are many new features in the chat view:
There are now more communication options in Snapchat Chat 2.0. This is now possible:
- Send text messages (old)
- Instant video chatting (legacy)
- Send photos from the gallery (old)
- Send and receive audio messages (new)
- Instant Audio Chatting / Calling (New)
- Send stickers (new)

Facebook vs Snapchat
Of course, the battle between Facebook and business profile Snapchat doesn’t just start with this update. He’s been in full swing for a long time.
While Facebook is working on the monetization of its Messenger (yes, there will be advertisements there from summer) and WhatsApp and bought the MSQRD mask app just three months after its release , Snapchat is giving its users new functions and emphasizing the CHAT in the name.
The media are now also reporting on Snapchat’s fight against Facebook . And it’s about nothing less than instant messaging supremacy.
More than 60 percent of young Americans use Snapchat
You might be thinking, “Wow, Snapchat can finally do what WhatsApp and Facebook have long been able to do.” That’s correct. But that’s shortsighted.
Because the focus must be on the relevance of the target group – and in my opinion, the yellow spirit has the edge:
More than 60% of young American smartphone owners between the ages of 13 and 34 are Snapchatters.
And with the reactions to the announced Instagram timeline update and the short-term withdrawal of the Facebook subsidiary, one can guess: the loyalty of social media users is only as great as the competitor is away.
And maybe this update won’t have a direct impact on your Snapchat marketing . But the network will certainly become a little more attractive again and take another step into the limelight of the social media world.
