For those who don’t know, Mahindra’s XUV400 electric SUV has been a long-awaited electric vehicle (EV). The company first showed it as a concept at the Auto Expo 2020. Over the past few months, parts of it that are ready for production have come to light. The EV is based on Mahindra’s popular XUV300 SUV, but it’s a little bit longer than the XUV300 because it doesn’t have to stick to the length rules that most compact SUVs with internal combustion engines do.
Everyone who was waiting for the new XUV400 now had a good idea of how the EV would look. Now that Mahindra has made it official, we can see that the XUV400 is the perfect electric version of the XUV300. It looks a little different from the gasoline or diesel version, but that’s what makes it stand out. For example, the fact that there are no air vents in the front grille shows that it is an electric car.
Mahindra XUV400 Launch Timeline
Mahindra says the XUV400 electric SUV will be released in stages starting in January 2023. Before that, the company plans to start its drives in 16 cities in phase 1 in December 2022. By the end of January 2023, people will start getting the XUV400.
When it goes on sale in India, the XUV400 will go up against cars like the Tata Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max. We don’t know the exact price of the electric SUV yet, but we can guess that it will cost between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. The XUV400 will come in Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Napoli Black, and Infinity Blue. The roof of these colours will have a two-tone Satin Copper finish.

The Mahindra XUV400 says it can go 456 km on a single charge, which is good for performance. This is because the car has a lithium-ion battery pack with 39.4kW. The company says that a 50kW DC fast charger will take about 50 minutes to charge the battery to about 80% of its capacity. A full charge can take up to 6 hours and 30 minutes when using a 7.2 kW charger. A standard home charger with 3.3 kW will take 13 hours to do the same thing.
Mahindra says that the SUV will come with charger options, and it also says that it will set up a fast charging network across India. It will be interesting to see what happens next with Mahindra EVs in India.
