Ingredients for Calamari Rings
- 1 cup of All Purpose Flour
- 2 beaten Eggs
- 1 tablespoon of Oat Milk
- 1 cup of Bread Crumbs
- Salt and Black Pepper Powder, to taste
- 20 rings of Squid Mantle – cross-cut
- Any Suitable Vegetable Oil – to deep fry
Instructions to Make Calamari Rings
- To prepare the calamari rings, you need to first take the squid mantle and cut them into 1/2 inches wide rings. Let these rings sit in a sieve, so the extra water may drain out.
- Now start preparing the batter for the Calamari Rings.
- In a wide plate add one cup of all purpose flour, and a pinch of black pepper powder. Mix them well so the black pepper powder is spread evenly. In another bowl, beat two eggs and add a pinch of salt to add taste to it. In a third, wide plate, add bread crumbs. If you want to make them aromatic and flavorful, you can also add rosemary and thyme to the bread crumbs.
- As the squid rings have stayed in the sieve for at least half an hour, start coating them in the prepared batter.
- Start with coating each ring in all purpose flour, then egg and lastly bread crumbs. This batter shall make them taste crispy and the bland texture of squid rings will be covered with these casual spices.
- Let each squid ring sit for a while so the batter may stick better and do not come off when you fry them.
- In a frying pan add vegetable oil and warm up the oil. On medium high flame, start frying calamari rings. Do not let the rings sit more than 1 or 1 ½ minute each side. Meaning, fry each ring for three minutes from both sides. Otherwise, it will taste burnt and rubbery in texture, and no one fancies their calamari rings that way.
- Spread out tissue paper on the plate you are planning to dish out your calamari rings, so it may absorb extra oil.
- Garnish them with finely chopped cilantro and green chilies and serve with Dingolay Hot Sauces.
