A CUSTOM PRINTED T-SHIRT CUSTOMER PROFILE – ARE YOU?
The process of screen printing involves creating a stencil and then forcing ink through that stencil onto the fabric. The stencil can be made by hand or photo emulsion and a new screen is required for each color of a design. DTG only uses software and a computer to send a design directly to a printer and this can take seconds as all colors are printed at once. (On darker fabrics, a white layer is printed first and then the remaining colors). DTG is much less time-consuming in terms of setup, which is particularly useful when printing short runs of t-shirts.
T-shirts are far more cost-effective with DTG printing
Smaller (less than 50) runs of T-shirts are far more cost-effective with DTG printing than with screen printing. Minimal setup with DTG printing means t-shirts can be produced in runs of just 1 for a material cost (including t-shirts) of $5-10 and producing a print on white can take as little as 2 minutes. Screen printers can claim that for longer runs they can produce a much more economical print, but with multiple colors, and then this seems unlikely.
Direct To Garment printing on T-shirts is far superior to screen printing. While both methods produce excellent quality, DTG is far superior to more environmentally friendly, T-shirts bedrucken less time-consuming and cheaper for smaller runs. While screen printing is a proven method of printing on t-shirts, DTG printing seems to be the way of the future.

The Advantages And Disadvantages
Today there are mainly three different types of t-shirt printing. Each has its own benefits and its own limitations as well.
screen printing
First screen printing. It is by far the oldest and still the most widely used method of the three. From the simpler manual printing process to large fully automatic presses, the principle remains essentially the same. It’s a simple process. Printing the However, setting up and cleaning the screens is time-consuming. Most companies charge the customer a setup fee to have the screens made. However, it’s a one-time fee and the screens are usually saved in case the customer ever wants to reprint the design.
Screen printing offers a very clean single color print. Ideal for many logos and texts. Perfect for mass production and to keep the print price down. Excellent durability for frequent washing and re-washing before fading. However, it’s not really suitable for photographic reproduction unless you want a lower quality photo image. (Many visible halftone dots). Also, each color needs to be printed separately. Screen printing can also be a dirty business.
