10 Amazing Principles of UI/UX Design You Should Know

UI/UX designers are awesome and they create amazing things that we all use on a daily basis. To make the lives of UI/UX designers easier, I have created a list of 10 principles of UI/UX design that you should know about if you want to become an awesome designer yourself. If you follow these principles, your designs will be amazing and your clients will love them!

1) Space

  1.  The use of negative space can create a sense of depth, weight and balance in a design. One excellent example is the profile picture on Facebook. There are no words or imagery on this page, it still  sense that there’s something happening behind the image.

2) Contrast

To contrast, think about how the following two items are similar in terms of their use: a water faucet and a light switch. Water is something that is used on an individual basis, while light is something that can be shared among several people.

3) The Golden Ratio

The Golden Ratio is a principle that applies to most aspects of design. The Golden Ratio is a ratio that brings the best balance to a design, and it’s based on the Fibonacci Sequence. The entire sequence goes like this: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8.

4) Balance

  1. Anticipation- This is one of the most powerful principles in UI design and it’s used to create anticipation for what’s coming next on the screen, often accompanied by animation.
  2. Hierarchy- This principle is used to create an orderly visual hierarchy for all the elements on a screen by using contrast and proximity to differentiate between them.
  3. Feedback- The feedback principle is about letting people know that they’ve done something successfully or unsuccessfully and how they can fix it if necessary.

5) Alignment

User interface design is an integral part of the user experience. A well-designed interface should be easy to use and provide a good user experience. User interfaces are made up of a variety of elements, including the layout, buttons, color palette, and images used.

6) Proximity

Proximity gives the reader an idea of where they are in the document, which helps them navigate more easily. It also reduces visual clutter and makes it easier for the user to find what they’re looking for.

7) Repetition

Repetition is an important principle of design, and can be used to create a sense of order and balance in your work. This principle works hand-in-hand with the use of symmetry.

8) Hierarchy (or Simplicity)

The hierarchy principle is one of the most important principles in user interface design. It states that if there are many items on a screen, people need some way to figure out which items they should be concentrating on. One way to do this is to use color.

9) Positive vs. Negative Space

Positive space refers to the area where an object is placed. Negative space refers to the area around the object. These two spaces will have a visual impact on your composition and design, so it’s important to be aware of their importance and how they interact with one another.

10) Consistency & Standards

A good interface should be intuitive and easy to use. A user-friendly interface should have consistency and standards that are applied to all elements of the design.
